Air deployment

While the ships left the English coast, the aviation began the operations to allow troops and tanks to quickly enter territories. With these territories being under German control, the deployment of airborne troops was essential to take and secure strategic points: roads, bridges, villages, artillery, batteries, etc. In this context, intensive bombing allowed them to weaken the enemy forces, and obstruct and slow down their ascent to the front. The Allies therefore aimed for military targets (batteries and radar stations threatening the beach landings) and civilian targets (ports, factories, railways, communication networks to stop the arrival of reinforcements).
